ABOUT OUR MONASTERY

We, the Capuchin Poor Clares of Alamo, TX are a community of nuns dedicated to contemplative prayer in the presence of the Most Holy Sacrament of the Altar, interceding for all the needs in our world and for you who visits our page and your whole family. We give our lives to God lovingly and joyfully. Our mission is prayer and adoration of the Most Blessed Sacrament, living in community with joy and peace.

In the year 2002 the Most Reverend Bishop Raymundo Pena petitioned for a group of contemplative religious for the Diocese of Brownsville, TX since up to then the Diocese lacked a monastery of contemplative life.

The Monastery of the Sacred Heart of Jesus in Zamora, Michoacan, Mexico, gladly accepted the invitation. We arrived in the Diocese of Brownsville on May 27th, 2003. The Monastery was built adjacent to the Church of St Joseph in Alamo, TX.

St Joseph’s Church was remodeled to become the Diocesan Chapel of Perpetual Adoration of the Most Blessed Sacrament, which is under our care.

We are open for adoration of the Most Blessed Sacrament from 8:30 am untio 8:00 pm, so that the people can participate together with us in the Adoration of the Most Blessed Sacrament, the Holy Mass, the Liturgy of the Hours and praying the Holy Rosary.

Monday through Saturday, the celebration of the Eucharist is at 8:00 am, and Sundays at 3:00 pm. If you are seeking God, you may come to us. He awaits your visit.
